DELIBERATELY INEFFICIENT

Perfromance 45

Pavilion "Cvijeta Zuzoric", Association of Fine Artists, Belgrade

2.07.2020.

Dance and narative  performance (durational) was performed by four dancers, and one actress. The performance referred to the phenomenon of the pandemic times. "The corona virus managed to stop the whole world for a certain time." (Paul Levy).  Through the dance of improvisation, dancers re-examined this sudden global turn as well as the possibility of performing arts in a time of pandemic culture of distancing and isolation. Dancers played in their individual positions, far from each other, but could not resist to stay in their isolated worlds, and from some point entered in the dance dialog, approaching to each other as animals, playfully but scared, and in the way fighting against each other. They found plastic barriers to stay safe between themselves, and continued to dance together. They ended their game of improvisation finding themselves tithed with a rope all around them.

This in situ performance includes the dance of four dancers of different dance practices, acting performances of parts of the text from essays by N. Chomsky, Žižek, Pavle Levi and other observations on the phenomenon of the new corona virus, combined with role-playing on the theme of conspiracy theories. at the time of the pandemic. The title of the performance, as well as the inscription on one of the costumes Deliberately inefficient is a reference to Buden's view that art, if it wants to offer resistance nowadays, must first of all be "reflective, autonomous and deliberately inefficient".
